The First YouFinder: What We Learned from Three Days in the Mountains

The first YouFinder took place from 31 March to 2 April 2023. When we returned to our notes from that edition, what stood out was not only the list of activities. It was the space around them: people continuing a conversation, asking to try a workshop again and sitting quietly to watch a sunset.

This story draws on our May 2023 recap and the YouFinder archive. The photographs belong to that earlier chapter, not the forthcoming Goa editions.

There were plenty of ways to begin

The programme brought together creative workshops, drum-circle experiences, flow art, embroidery, music and poetry. That variety mattered because people did not all need the same doorway into the gathering.

Someone could begin by making something. Someone else could listen. A shared activity gave people a reason to spend time together before they knew much about one another. The recap describes strangers connecting and participants asking to repeat workshops. We do not need to turn those moments into a claim about what every person experienced. They are meaningful as the specific things our team noticed.

The pauses belonged to the experience

A sunset does not require a facilitator. Neither does a conversation that carries on after the planned session. The early notes remind us that a programme can create the conditions for time together without needing to direct every minute of it.

That remains useful when we plan. A full timetable may look generous on a page, but people need time to eat, settle, rest and follow their own interest. Leaving space is a decision, not an absence of effort.

Trying something did not need a grand explanation

The archive contains making, movement, music and time outdoors. In the aftermovie notes, the feeling is of slowing down enough to notice and try things. It is a simple idea, and one we still care about.

You do not have to describe a gathering as life-changing for it to matter. Enjoying an unfamiliar activity, sharing a meal or having an unhurried afternoon can be worth travelling for on its own.

What we carry into the next chapter

YouFinder now offers different ways to join: city Socials, the Festival and a small-group Retreat. They have different dates, settings and commitments. The earlier mountain edition does not establish the current room arrangements, facilitator list or programme. Those details belong to each new experience and need to be read on its current page.

What carries forward is the interest in making room: for curiosity, creative expression, nature where the setting allows it, and company that does not need to be forced.

See the next YouFinder experiences. The archive tells you where we began. The current programme will tell you what you can join now.

Keep exploring
