Room to Say No: Participation, Personal Space and YouFinder

Joining a gathering should not mean agreeing to every activity, conversation or photograph. YouFinder’s approach to participation leaves room for choice. You can ask what an exercise involves, pass on a prompt and take time away from the group.

Understanding that before arrival can make it easier to decide whether an experience feels right for you.

Participation is a choice you keep making

Saying yes to a booking is not a blanket yes to personal disclosure or physical contact. If a session involves touch, sharing or another element you are unsure about, ask the facilitator to explain it. You can decline or step back.

You do not need to give a detailed personal reason to justify a boundary. “I’m going to sit this one out” can be enough. If you would like a different way to take part, ask what is possible for that activity.

Give other people the same room

Ask before touching, taking a close photograph or drawing someone into a conversation they have not chosen. A friendly atmosphere does not replace consent. Notice when someone wants to rest, keep something private or leave an interaction.

If you would like to exchange contact details, ask. Joining the same experience does not create an obligation to continue a conversation afterwards. Good company includes being able to say no without having to smooth it over.

Talk about photographs early

If you do not want to be photographed or featured publicly, tell the hosts and the photographer when you arrive. Ask how that preference will be communicated and how to raise a concern about an image later. When taking your own pictures, check with the people in them before posting.

A group setting can make photography complicated. Do not assume everyone in the background wants to appear online just because a camera is present.

Raise practical needs before booking

Access, room sharing, food requirements, sensory preferences and activity suitability are worth discussing ahead of time. Explain what you need and ask for details of the actual venue and programme. The team should confirm what can be arranged; not every request or room change can be guaranteed.

YouFinder is a hosted social and creative experience. It is not a substitute for healthcare or individual professional support. Choose it for the programme and company it offers, with a realistic understanding of the setting.

Know where to ask for help

Read the current Safety and Participation page before attending. Ask who the on-site contact will be and how to reach them privately. If something feels uncomfortable, raise it promptly with the hosts rather than feeling you must manage it alone.

We want the practical details to be clear enough that you can make your own decision. You are welcome to ask questions before you book, and you remain a person with choices after you arrive.

Keep exploring
